What is aglaia

aglaia is a linux tool for IEEE1394 cameras released as open source (GPL). Actually it's more a toy than a tool. It takes images from the camera, applies some filters and displays the result. Furthermore you can save these images to disk as JPEG.
Too see what it can do just have a look at the images section.

What do I need to run it?

First you need some hardware. In this case it would be an IEEE1394 (also known as FireWire) controller and a matching camera (NOTE: I'm speaking of cameras, NOT camcorders). A list of supported hardware can be found here.

On the software side you'll need a running linux box with working IEEE1394 support. To check your configuration you might use gscanbus and coriander.

For compilation the following libraries should be installed on your system:

How to install

Step over to the download section and get the package. Unzip it with
tar xvzf aglaia-*.tar.gz
or something similar.
cd to the new directory (should be aglaia-X, where X is the version number) and run make. If nothing went wrong you can start aglaia now by typing ./aglaia
